With two basic mixes to choose from, Shauna
Solomon scores another winner for the Miami-based Harlequin Records. Another
take on the whole TGIF theme, "Weekend" is perfect for Friday and Saturday night
play, as Solomon extols the virtues of letting loose before the time clock has
to be punched again Monday morning. Kinky Roland’s Big Ball Mix takes on a
slight filtered disco feel, ,with occasional string flourishes scattered
throughout. Unfortunately, the first introduction to the chorus comes a
cappella, a trick that should have been much later in the track. Mike Mucci’s
Circuit Boy TGIF! Remix, and variations thereof, come across as near tribe-a-pella
style mixes. Refreshingly, there are no grandstanding diva moments here, just a
simple, powerful song about the joys of a few days off..
